A new sight for the modernized T-90

Image
Back in 2018, a new programme was started. This programme's focus is to create domestic equipment for Russian armoured vehicles, specifically optics. This is so that the Russian army can stop depending on the french company "Thales" and their Catherine technology. T-72B3 received new internal components for the Sosna-U sight, phasing out any foreign components. As for the T-90M/T-90MS, something else was done. Previously, the T-90M/T-90MS employed the Sosna-U sight, which featured french components from Thales. However, the internals of the sight was not simply replaced. This time, a completely new domestic sight was created under the name PNM-T. The sight was reportedly made by the PJSC ANPP TEMP-AVIA in 2018 or 2019. The first appearance was in the Telekanal Zvezda show, during the episode about the Proryv-3 (T-90M). In this episode, a new plaque can be seen with the name of the sight. Its first public physical appearance, however, was at the Army-2019 event. The doo

BMP-2 with lattice screen package

A set of lattice screens from JSC "Research Institute of Steel" (NIIStali) installed on the BMP-2. The principle of operation of the LS is based on the destruction of the chemical cumulative funnel when an RPG hits between the bars of the grid and thereby disrupts the formation of the penetrating jet. The probability of preventing the penetration of an RPG with the help of LS does not exceed 0.5-0.6.  Taken from: NII Stali

Image
For the first time, modern T-80BVM tanks entered service with the motorized rifle unit of the Eastern Military District. The day before, several dozen tanks arrived in Khabarovsk, on a train convoy.  Earlier, the personnel of the tank units of the motorized rifle unit passed specialized courses on retraining for new equipment. The training of specialists took place on a modern educational and material base, which includes the latest computerized simulators and allows you to teach military personnel the operation and combat use of modern equipment and weapons in a short amount of time.  In the near future, the new tanks will take part in the performance of combat training tasks at one of the VVO training grounds. Modernized BRM-3 with a remote-controlled combat module

Image
Back in 2015, the concept of replacing manned turrets on IFVs with remote-controlled combat modules was only a prototype concept, made using the BMP-3. To this day, 'Kurganmashzavod' and 'VNII Signal' have continued to work on streamlining the controls and the overall operability of this remote-controlled combat module.  From a first glance, the vehicle looks like it's using the BRM-3 hull and a modernized 'Bakhcha-U' turret module. When comparing the standard 'Bakhcha-U' turret with this vehicle's turret variant, it is noticeable that the old sight systems were replaced. The centrally mounted sight is a commander's panoramic thermal sight, which was previously installed on the T-72B3 Obr.2014. The standard gunner's sight was also replaced with the PPNK commander's panoramic sight and is paired with the main gun. Paired sight movement with the main gun It is worth noting, that the turret lacks crew hatches, meaning access to the inter
