BMP-3 ERA topic continuation

This post expands on a previously covered topic, being the BMP-3 with ERA. Potentially sealing this topic until later when more information comes to light. 



ERA package components: 
  • ERA containers filled with 4S24 ERA elements, containers are mounted on the front and both sides of the hull.
  • Slat armour mounted on the rear of the vehicle protects the engine compartment.

Overall package performance: 

Protection against AT rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) PG-7V, PG-7VS, PG-7VL, PG-7VM, PG-9S and other types of grenades capable of penetrating up to 600mm RHA within a 180° fire arc. 
  • In areas covered by ERA containers, the probability of protection is at least 80%. 
  • In areas covered by slat armour, the probability of protection is at least 50%.
Protection against small arms: 
  • Areas covered by ERA containers
    • 12.7mm B-32 rounds at 0m within 180° fire arc
    • 14.5mm B-32 rounds at 50m within 180° fire arc
  • Areas covered by slat armour and steel plates
    • 12.7mm B-32 rounds at 350m within 180° fire arc
  • Ballistic protection of add-on ERA package (in the areas covered by ERA containers)
    • 23mm AP ammunition at 550m within 180° fire arc
    • 30mm AP ammunition at 0m within 60° fire arc
The entire package weighs 4,150kg. 
A BMP-3 IFV equipped with such a package also retains its buoyancy. 




4S24 ERA Element specifications: 
  • Weight: 1.36kg 
  • Probability of countering shaped-charge threats: 95%
  • ERA Element does not detonate when hit by API rounds
  • Dimensions of each individual element: 10mm x 130mm x 250mm

BMP-3 equipped with side skirts to mount ERA (ERA containers are not mounted)





ERA package composition: 
  • The package consists of 4 types of ERA blocks 
  • Steel plates with mounting brackets
  • Dampening plates for side skirts
  • Slat armour 
  • Hull roof dampening plates
The entire package has 84 ERA blocks.
