Russian 9th of May parade structure

As with any 9th of May parade, the RF MoD releases a planned structure in which the parade will take place. Over time the structure stays relatively the same, showing historically important vehicles first like the T-34-85 or Su-100 and then showcasing modern combat vehicles. Progressively the parade became more structured and cleaner. 



As of this year, the rehearsal structure became much simpler, but the variety of showcased vehicles has drastically decreased. Compared to previous years, the 2022 parade lacks Russia's most prised vehicle the T-14, alongside the T-90M and T-80BVM are missing. 

This change could have been done to mix up the presented vehicles or the situation is far more complex and certain AFVs were pulled out for "modernization" or "repairs". Still, a weird move to remove several 'highlights' of the parade.

When covering Soviet sight technology there are always some interesting designs and approaches to solving an issue. It is a common fact that the Soviet Union in the 1980s-1990s was quite behind in thermal sight technology. Over half a year ago, I promised to write an article about T-80 rubber flaps and their purpose, which would have completed the trifecta article collection: T-80 aerodynamic features and  T-80 MBT engine air filtration and dust prevention systems . This article builds up on the T-80 aerodynamic features topic and will conclude this series.  Unfortunately, I have come across zero primary sources, that directly mention the purpose of these rubber flaps, which makes it difficult to write an article with primary sources. There are 2 disputed arguments on this topic; one argument states that the flaps on the T-80s are meant to redirect airflow and reduce air contaminants like sand and dust from entering the engine. BMP-3 ERA topic continuation

This post expands on a previously covered topic, being the BMP-3 with ERA . Potentially sealing this topic until later when more information comes to light.  ERA package components:  ERA containers filled with 4S24 ERA elements, containers are mounted on the front and both sides of the hull. Slat armour mounted on the rear of the vehicle protects the engine compartment. Overall package performance:  Protection against AT rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) PG-7V, PG-7VS, PG-7VL, PG-7VM, PG-9S and other types of grenades capable of penetrating up to 600mm RHA within a 180 ° fire arc.  In areas covered by ERA containers, the probability of protection is at least 80%.  In areas covered by slat armour, the probability of protection is at least 50%.
