"Shvabe" scientists have patented optics with increased reflection
The development relates to the field of instrumentation and can potentially be used as an optical element in laser technology operating at a wavelength of 10.6 microns, and at the same time - in various optoelectronic devices for a wide range of the spectrum. Its authors were specialists of the NGO "State Institute of Applied Optics" (NGO HYPO) from Kazan.
A feature of the invention is that the reflective layer of the mirror is made of a thin aluminium- copper film of alloy with a thickness of 200-400 nm, and the protective layer is made of lutetium oxide with a thickness of 100-250 nm.
"The reflection coefficient of the proposed optical mirror is 0.1–0.4% higher in the visible, medium and far spectral IR ranges than that of the prototype. In addition, gold, which is a precious metal, is used in the reflective layer of the prototype. Aluminium and copper used in the reflective layer of the proposed optical mirror are ten times cheaper," said Villen Baloev, Director General of NPO HYPO.
The Institute has been conducting research and development in this direction for more than 60 years. During this time, vast experience has been accumulated in the development of antireflective, filtering, dichroic, highly reflective, beam-splitting, protective coatings with high optical and operational characteristics for a wide range of spectrum from 0.25 to 25 microns.
