New footage shows a new T-72B3 "M" vehicle fielding non-standard equipment. The vehicle features all the new integrations that were fielded by UVZ in the last several months. T-90M style front mudguards, additional ERA protection around the gun mantlet and commanders cupola, steel tubes used for mounting additional protection against loitering munitions and RPGs. Previously, the TKN-AI commander's observation device with active-pulse illumination was used. Compared with it, the new sight has a number of advantages, one of the main new features the allows better terrain observation in a circular view. In addition to target identification of the gunner-operator, it is now possible to independently fire from standard weapons. There are two channels: television and thermal, two fields of view - wide and narrow, as well as the possibility of electronic zoom. The maximum detection range of a tank-type target at night can reach 5000 meters. Setting a panorama greatly enhances the BMP-3s capabilities on the modern battlefield. "AGAVA" - "AGAVA-2" and its confusing history

When covering Soviet sight technology there are always some interesting designs and approaches to solving an issue. It is a common fact that the Soviet Union in the 1980s-1990s was quite behind in thermal sight technology. Only in the 1990s, but to be specific in 1992, the Soviet Union now Russia started to field small batches of thermal sights on their tanks, primarily T-80Us and some of the early T-90 variants, which just recently entered service. Russia's journey through creating its own domestic thermal sight traces back to 1982. The 1980s were quite an important time for the 'Krasnogorsk Factory named after S.A Zverev', which is still to date an Optical Engineering and Optoelectronics factory. The factory is primarily known for making domestic Soviet cameras back in the day. However, that's not the only thing that the factory has produced back then. The world's first mass-produced tank gas turbine engine GTD-1000T was created at the Klimov Plant in 1968 for the T-80 main battle tank developed By the special tank design Bureau of the Kirov plant (now JSC "Spetsmash"), which was adopted by the Soviet Army in 1976. 'Tisas' and 'Rassvet-GP' (Dawn-GP) thermal imaging sights for T-72 tank variants

In 2003, a company by the name "Peleng" (Belarus) showcased 2 different T-72A MBTs equipped with thermal imaging sights. Those being the "Tisas" and "Рассвет-ГП" - "Dawn-PG". The main direction of the modernization of the T-72 tanks carried out by 'Peleng' was to expand the combat capabilities of the vehicle's weapon systems during different weather conditions and different times of the day. On both T-72A tanks, the TPN-3-49 passive night sight was entirely removed and replaced with "Tisas" and "Dawn-PG". Both new sights were paired together with the TPD-K1 tank sight rangefinder. Interestingly enough, the T-72A fitted the 'Tisas' TIS, and kept its Luna IR lamp. The turret and TPD-K1 do not have to be modernized or changed when the vehicle is equipped with one of the TIS's. Gen-I sights featured the most basic technology due to them being the first of their type. In 2004, the T-90A (Object 188A1) tank joined the Russian armed forces. It included many fire control system upgrades, a new welded turret, and improved mobility. The "Krasnopol" weapon systems are intended to engage stationary targets such as MBTs and IFVs. Additionally, mobile targets moving under 36km/h can be targetted. A new sight for the modernized T-90

Back in 2018, a new programme was started. This programme's focus is to create domestic equipment for Russian armoured vehicles, specifically optics. This is so that the Russian army can stop depending on the french company "Thales" and their Catherine technology. T-72B3 received new internal components for the Sosna-U sight, phasing out any foreign components. As for the T-90M/T-90MS, something else was done. Previously, the T-90M/T-90MS employed the Sosna-U sight, which featured french components from Thales. However, the internals of the sight was not simply replaced. This time, a completely new domestic sight was created under the name PNM-T. The sight was reportedly made by the PJSC ANPP TEMP-AVIA in 2018 or 2019.
